Solwyn — Est. 2024 · Barcelona

We didn't set out to build a travel platform. We set out to slow things down.

A curated collection of rural stays across the Mediterranean, chosen for character and hosted by the people who built them.

The People

The team behind Solwyn.

Carla and Richard spent years travelling across southern Europe — staying in hotels that were beautiful on paper and hollow in person. The places they remembered were always the ones with a host who cared. A converted farmhouse. A family table. A garden that took thirty years to grow.

Solwyn began as a list they kept for themselves. Properties they'd visited, photographed, and stayed in — shared with friends who asked for recommendations. Over time, that list became something worth building properly.

Based in Barcelona. Permanently on the road. Every property on Solwyn has been visited by one of us — no exceptions, no shortcuts, no aggregation.

Travel has become fast, frictionless — and forgettable.

The infrastructure of modern travel optimises for speed. For the path of least resistance. For stars and scores and instant decisions. It has made travel easier — and in doing so, stripped it of the thing that makes it worth doing.

Solwyn exists for the opposite. For the traveller who wants to arrive somewhere and feel it. Who wants to meet the person who built the house, planted the vineyard, laid the stone by hand. Who understands that the best places are rarely the most searched for.

We are not a platform. We are an editorial project with a booking layer. The difference is everything.

How We Choose

Four principles. No exceptions.

01

We visit. Every single time.

Not through a photo submission form. Not via a partner agency. We visit in person, stay at least one night, meet the host, and make a decision. If we can't get there, it doesn't go on the site.

02

Owner-led. Always.

Every property on Solwyn is run by the person who owns it — or their immediate family. No hotel groups, no investment landlords, no management companies posing as hosts. The soul of a place lives in who opens the door.

03

Beauty matters. But never without purpose.

We choose places that are beautiful — but we disqualify the ones that are only beautiful. The design must serve the experience. The space must feel lived in. Aesthetic without warmth is just a photoshoot.

04

Experience over performance.

We are not looking for properties that perform well on Instagram. We are looking for places that leave a mark. That change the way someone sees a landscape, a culture, a way of living. The camera is secondary.
